We believe that the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Board of Education (BOE) has the responsibility to ensure that our district is responsive to the needs of every student in our increasingly diverse community.
This election there are three BOE seats on the ticket, all for Scotch Plains. We interviewed every candidate to understand if their priorities align with our mission to bring more representation, equality, anti-racism and literary diversity into our schools’ lessons, libraries and leaders.
After careful consideration, the REAL Parents x SPF leadership team is endorsing Karen Kulikowski, Debora Brody and Tonya Y. Williams.
Each of these candidates were unequivocally in support of equity initiatives and have used skills, experiences and education to move equity efforts forward in our district. Together, they will continue that momentum of multifaceted positive progress to the benefit of all students.
This year, BOE races all over the country have been swarmed by candidates using misinformation and fear mongering in an attempt to curb the advancement of diversity, equality and inclusion measures in schools. Local elections have consequences. Cast your vote in favor of representation, equality, anti-racism and literary diversity in our schools.
Our students are counting on us.
