Legal Challenges Persist As Governor Denies COAH Request
COUNTY — Efforts by the Township of Cranford and at least a dozen other municipalities to get Governor Phil Murphy to reinstate the Council on Affordable Housing (COAH) have been refuted in New Jersey Superior Court by state-level higher-ups who claim that the council never lived up to its expectations.
In a legal response dated March 27 and filed in response to a 2022 lawsuit, Attorney General Matt Platkin wrote that not only had the council proven ineffectual as a functional oversight committee, but that neither the state nor its highest office was under any obligation to reinstate it.
