The 3-1 Rahway High School football team scored 20 points in the first quarter and seven more in the second quarter then cruised to a 27-12 victory over the 1-3 Scotch Plains-Fanwood Raiders at Rahway Park on September 14. Raider junior quarterback Anthony Romano completed 10 of 23 passes for 108 yards and Rahway quarterback Ziare Fields completed three of seven passes for 40 yards.
The Raiders totaled 109 rushing yards on 34 carries. Romano carried 14 times for 39 yards, including a touchdown. TJ Rasberry carried 10 times for 30 yards and Ryan Gilligan carried three times for nine yards, including a touchdown. John Boyle carried twice for11 yards and Noah Ricca carried once for one yard.
The Indians gobbled up 212 yards on the ground with 31 carries. Andrew Avent carried 20 times for 147 yards, including two touchdowns. Trevor Delapara carried six times for 41 yards, including a touchdown. Jalen Rodger had a 23-yard carry, Fields had a three-yard carry and Damari Julius had a two-yard carry. Marquis Diggs carried twice for minus four yards.
Diggs got the scoring started with a 79-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the first quarter but the point after failed. Delapara added and eightyard touchdown run and Dan Gonzalez kicked the point after.Avent scored on a six-yard run late in the first quarter and Gonzalez kicked the point after for a 20-0 lead.
Gilligan made the score 20-6 with a three-yard carry in the second quarter then Avent galloped 21 yards for the touchdown to make the halftime score 27-6. Romano added a nineyard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to finalize the scoring.
