The presently unranked Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School boys soccer team opened the No. 8 Delran Bears’ eyes in a big way with a 4-0 thrashing in Scotch Plains on September 19. The Bears entered the game with wins over Cinnaminson, West Windsor-Plainsboro South and the HUN School, while losing to Top-10 ranked Hunterdon Central and Christian BrothersAcademy. The 4-1 Raiders’ only loss was to Elizabeth in double overtime.

The Raiders scored only once in the first half but broke the Bears’ back in the second half. Sophomore midfielder Darren Edelman and cocaptain/ forward Aaron Casterlow each netted a goal and an assist, while sophomore forward Jayvon Young and senior midfielder Tim Ennis each scored once. Senior Sohem Rai added an assist. Senior goalkeeper Jeff Dietrich recorded four saves. Delran keeper Zach Trombly recorded three saves.
On September 21, the No. 9, 5-1 Raiders slipped past the 3-2 Governor Livingston Highlanders, 1-0, in two overtimes. Devin Pearce on an assist from Luca Passucci scored the game winner. Goalkeeper Dietrich recorded three saves
