William G. Connolly, Jr., Beloved Family
Man, Dedicated Author and Journalist
William G. Connolly, Jr., 86, of Garwood, N.J., died on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. Bill was a journalist at The New York Times for 30 years and co-author of “The New York Times Manual of Style and Usage” and author of “The New York Times Guide to Buying or Building a Home.”
His proudest work was to advance the careers of young journalists at newspapers across the country, and he taught at several journalism graduate programs and organizations. He spent his retirement pursuing a lifelong love of visual art as a trustee of the New Jersey Art Association and a member of several art associations.
He is survived by his beloved sister, Sister Jane Marie Connolly; his loving children, William G. III and his wife, Kitty Nguyen, of Maplewood, N.J.; Kath of Providence, R.I.; and Hal and his partner, Kim Corbin, of Washington, D.C.; and three grandchildren, Claire, William IV and Nora.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, December 22, and 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, December 23, at the Dooley Funeral Home, 218 North Avenue West, Cranford, N.J.
