SUMMIT AREA — The Summit Area Old Guard will meet on Tuesday, January 16, at 10 a.m., at the New Providence Presbyterian Church, located at 1307 Springfield Avenue, New Providence.
Joe Kane, a prevention specialist for the Council On Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey, will discuss all the complexities and the pernicious nature of compulsive gambling, and the need to support those suffering from this disease.
“Lives and entire families have been destroyed. Gambling is no longer at the racetrack, in Atlantic City, or with a bookie. The cell phone in our pocket or pocketbook is a potential mobile casino or sports betting parlor,” notes a statement submitted by the Old Guard regarding the upcoming program.
Founded in 1930, the Summit Area Old Guard meets most Tuesdays at the church. The group’s motto is: “Come for the Programs. Stay for the Friends.”
Old Guard programs are free to the public and all are welcome.
Presentations at upcoming meetings of the Summit Area Old Guard include the following: January 23 — “New Jersey Sharing Network Organ Donation Program.”
January 30 — “Senior Medicare Patrol: Detect and Report Medicare Fraud.”
