FANWOOD/SCOTCH PLAINS — Judith Fleming will share her experiences as a Peace Corps volunteer in Uganda, Africa, focusing on the importance of empowering girls and women.
The program, which is being hosted by the College Club of Fanwood-Scotch Plains, will be presented via Zoom and will begin at 7:30 p.m. on January 22. It is free and the public is invited to attend. After a successful career working as a staff assistant for the City of Worcester and then for AllmericaFinancial/ Hanover Insurance, where she rose to the position of vice-president, corporate and human services, and vicepresident, class action administrator atAllmerica Financial/Hanover Insurances, Ms. Fleming joined the Peace Corps at age 70 and was assigned to serve in Uganda.
After 12 weeks of extensive training, learning the language, culture, economic and community development, Ms. Fleming left with a group of approximately 50 others to serve a twoyear commitment in southwest Uganda. During the course of her service in Uganda, Ms. Fleming used her extensive business skills to oversee projects designed to empower girls and women. Her presentation will focus on her experiences in the Peace Corps and two of the important projects that she was instrumental in developing. The projects create a model for sustainability and income opportunity which has helped to empower the girls and women of Uganda.
