SCOTCH PLAINS — Drop In Crafting will take place on Tuesday, February 13, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., and Thursday, February 29, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Scotch Plains Public Library. Registration is not required — interested persons can just drop by the lower level of the library with their current work-in-progress or to craft for a great cause.
The Scotch Plains Public Library is now partnering with Support Services for Cancer Patients through Atlantic Health at Overlook Medical Center to provide comfort and warmth for those who are going through chemotherapy. To that end, the library has started a hand-knitted or crocheted hat-collection program to benefit cancer patients receiving treatment at Overlook Medical Center. No registration is required.
These handmade items are provided free to patients during their chemotherapy sessions. The library can provide patterns for the hats or participants can use their own. There is no time limit or deadline for the completed hats, so participants can work at their own pace.
The Scotch Plains Public Library has a stash of yarn and tools if anyone is in need of supplies, or participants can bring their own and craft with others in a supportive environment. The finished items will be individually bagged and brought to the cancer center with a card informing the recipient that it was crafted by an individual from the Scotch Plains Public Library community.
