Monday, January 29, Christopher Stevens, 39, of Roselle was arrested and charged with under ringing merchandise, valued at $85.05, and passing all points of sale from the ShopRite supermarket located at 76 Central Avenue. Stevens was transported to Clark Police Department Headquarters, processed accordingly and subsequently released pending a court date.
Monday, January 29, Lailah Chaves, 24, of Fords was arrested and charged with shoplifting merchandise, valued at $91.95, from the Target store located at 45 Central Avenue.
Tuesday, January 30, police took a report of theft from a resident. The incident is under investigation.
Wednesday, January 31, Elijah Edwards, 26, of Woodbridge was arrested and charged with shoplifting merchandise, valued at $373.39, from the ShopRite supermarket located at 76 Central Avenue. Edwards was transported to Clark Police Department Headquarters, processed accordingly and subsequently released pending a court date.
Wednesday, January 31, police took a report of a previous shoplifting incident that occurred at the Ulta Beauty store located at 1255 Raritan Road. This incident is under investigation.
Thursday, February 1, Lisa Quinn, 67, of Rahway was arrested and charged with shoplifting merchandise, valued at $28.49, from the Target store located at 45 Central Avenue. Quinn was transported to Clark Police Department Headquarters, processed accordingly and subsequently released pending a court date.
Thursday, February 1, police took a report of fraud from a resident. This incident is under investigation.
Thursday, February 1, Felicia DiNizo, 36, of Roselle was arrested and charged with shoplifting merchandise, valued at $175.43, from the Target store located at 45 Central Avenue. DiNizo was transported to Clark Police Department Headquarters, processed accordingly and subsequently released pending a court date.
Friday, February 2, police took a report of criminal mischief to a motor vehicle that occurred in the area of Winthrop Road. This incident is under investigation.
Saturday, February 3, police took a report of an attempted burglary to a residence on Victoria Drive. This incident is under investigation.

Sunday, February 4, Daniel Lawlor, 52, of Cranford was arrested and charged with shoplifting merchandise, valued at $76.33, from the ShopRite supermarket located at 76 Central Avenue. Lawlor was transported to Clark Police Department Headquarters and subsequently released pending a court date.

Thursday, January 18, police responded to a business establishment on the 10 block of South Avenue for the report of a shoplifting. Subsequent to an investigation, Michael Andrews, 36, of Carteret was arrested and charged with Shoplifting. Andrews was processed and provided a municipal court appearance date.
Friday, January 26, police responded to a business establishment on the 400 block of South Avenue for the report of a physical altercation in progress. Upon arrival, officers observed the staff manager involved in a physical altercation with an unknown male.An individual later identified as Hasaan Cook, 38, of Florence, S.C. had allegedly attempted to cash a fraudulent check. When confronted about the check being fraudulent, Cook became physically aggressive towards employees, which led to the physical altercation. Subsequent to a brief investigation, Cook was arrested on charges of Fraud, Simple Assault and Resisting Arrest. Cook was processed and provided a Superior Court appearance date.
Saturday, January 27, police were dispatched on the report of a driver behind the wheel of a motor vehicle near Centennial Avenue at Raritan Road. Upon arrival, an officer located a 2017 Mazda in the lane of travel with one occupant asleep in the driver’s seat. Subsequent to an investigation, Wesley Wade, 27, of Roselle was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). Wade was processed and provided a municipal court appearance date. In addition, Wade was issued motor vehicle summonses for reckless driving, delaying traffic and refusal to submit breath samples.
Monday, January 29, police stopped a 2014 Chevrolet van near the intersection of Centennial Avenue and Raritan Road for seatbelt violations. Subsequent to an investigation, the driver, Robert Sutyak, 60, of Avenel, was arrested and charged with Possession of CDS — cocaine and heroin. Additionally, the passenger, Stephanie Nunez, 35, of Irvington, was found to have several active warrants for her arrest. Sutyak was processed and provided a Superior Court appearance date. Nunez also was processed and later released from custody pending court appearances.
Wednesday, January 31, a detective was at a retail business establishment on South Avenue West when he was informed by staff about a possible shoplifter. Subsequent to a brief investigation, the detective arrested Vernice Harvard, 61, of Newark, who was charged with Shoplifting. Harvard was processed and provided a municipal court appearance date.

Wednesday, January 31, patrol officers observed a female, Marguerit Mbida, a 36-year-old Hillside resident, urinating in public in the area of 74 South Martine Avenue. A borough ordinance was issued to Mbida for disorderly conduct/urinating on the property of another in public. The incident was documented by patrol officers.

Monday, January 29, a burglary to the Curex Pharmacy, located at 1819 East Second Street, occurred at approximately 4:55 a.m. Four Black males exited a Dodge and forced entry by smashing the frontdoor window. Medication worth thousands of dollars was stolen. All of the males were wearing gloves and ski masks. This incident currently is under investigation.
Monday, January 29, Rem Vanderbeek, 36, of Westfield was arrested as the result of a motor vehicle stop. Police stopped the vehicle for being unregistered. Further investigation revealed that Vanderbeek’s license was suspended and he had an active traffic warrant out of Green Brook. He was released with a new court date.
Monday, January 29, a Cooper Road resident reported a fraudulent check that was cashed on his bank account. Someone altered a check mailed to a different company. This matter is under investigation by the bank.
Monday, January 29, a resident of Raritan Road reported that a fraudulent check was cashed against her bank account. This matter is under investigation by the Detective Bureau.
Wednesday, January 31, The UHaul, Route 22 West, reported a stolen van.At approximately 10:52 p.m., a male opened the door to one of the vans and drove it away. All keys are locked up at this time. The van was recovered by the Newark Police Department on February 3.
Wednesday, January 31, an attempted burglary to a residence was reported on Park View Drive. An unknown White male exited a Honda CRV and attempted to gain entry using a side entrance. He was unable to, and left the area. This matter is under investigation by the Detective Bureau.
Sunday, February 4, Yesim Miller, 26, of Plainfield was arrested as a result of a motor vehicle stop. Police found an active traffic warrant out of the East Orange Police Department. Miller was released with a new court date.
WESTFIELD
Tuesday, January 23, a resident of the 100 block of N. Cottage Place reported fraudulent withdrawals from their account with a financial institution. The withdrawals occurred at an ATM. The resident stated that they did not make the withdrawals, nor did they authorize anyone to make the withdrawals on their behalf. At this time, the resident has not suffered a monetary loss.
Thursday, January 25, a business on the 100 block of East Broad Street reported a shoplifting that occurred. The approximate value of the shoplifting is more than $800. The suspect selected items and tried them on in the fitting room, then left the business without paying for said items.
Sunday, January 28, a resident from the area of Cottage Place, near the intersection of Tice Place, reported that the trunk of his unlocked Toyota sedan was burglarized sometime between the hours of 1:30 p.m. on January 27 and 6 p.m. on January 28. The victim stated that only the trunk appeared to have been rummaged through and reported that a printer, valued at approximately $200, had been removed from the motor vehicle.
Monday, January 29, a resident of the 300 block of Orenda Circle reported a motor vehicle burglary that resulted in the theft of property. The resident stated that an unknown suspect(s) entered their parked vehicle overnight and stole the victim’s wallet from inside the vehicle. The victim reported that approximately $300 in U.S. currency was in the wallet at the time of the theft. The victim reported that the remaining contents of the wallet that was stolen had an approximate value of over $300. The resident’s vehicles had no signs of damage and it appeared they were unlocked at the time of the theft. The resident was subsequently a victim of fraud when a credit card in their stolen wallet was used without their authorization in another jurisdiction.
Monday, January 29, a Topping Hill Road resident reported being the victim of identity theft; specifically, that an unknown suspect(s) established an account with a store in their name. The resident stated that they are unaware who opened the account without their authorization. It also was determined the information used to open the account was publicly available. The victim reports no financial loss at this time.
Monday, January 29, Jose Pashmayyaguana, 37, of Harrison was stopped by Westfield Police Department personnel while operating a motor vehicle. He was stopped in the area of East Broad Street and Elm Street for having an outstanding traffic warrant out of Newark. The warrant was for the amount of $750. Newark Municipal Court released Pashmayyaguana on his own recognizance with a new court date in the near future.
Tuesday, January 30, a resident of the 200 block of Orchard Street reported that an unknown person(s) used their identity to access an account with a financial institution. Said person(s) then electronically transferred a large sum of funds from the resident’s account. However, the resident was able to contact the financial institution before the transfer was finalized. Currently, the victim has suffered no monetary loss. The resident also reported that an account was opened using their identity without their authorization. This account was closed upon being discovered.
Wednesday, January 31, Westfield Police were dispatched to a motor vehicle in the roadway at East Dudley Avenue and Highland Avenue with a driver appearing to be unconscious. Upon determining no emergent medical issue was ongoing, an investigation took place which led to the arrest of the driver, Mohamed Eman, 42, of Parlin, who was charged with Driving While Impaired. Also, the driver was arrested on scene on numerous CDS possession charges. Further investigation led to additional CDS distribution criminal charges. The driver was later released to a sober adult after being processed and given a future court date in Union County Superior Court.
Wednesday, January 31, a resident of the 100 block of Summit Court reported being the victim of fraudulent charges to a credit-card account. The resident stated that an unknown suspect(s) made fraudulent charges without his approval or authorization. The resident reported that there were several separate incidents of fraudulent charges. The resident stated that fraudulent charges occurred and that they took the appropriate reported actions. The resident has suffered a financial loss of over $1,500.
Thursday, February 1, a business located on the 200 block of East Broad Street reported being a victim of fraud. According to the owner, between January 26, 2024 and January 30, 2024, an unknown person(s) attempted to make several fraudulent withdrawals from his business bank account. All attempted transactions were declined by the financial institution and there was no financial loss.
Thursday, February 1, a resident of the 100 block of Ayliffe Avenue reported being the victim of fraudulent charges to their Bank of America checking account. The resident stated that an unknown suspect(s) made fraudulent charges without their approval or authorization. The resident reported that there were 11 separate sets of incidents of fraudulent charges. The resident has suffered no financial loss at this time.
Friday, February 2, a resident of the 400 block of Poe Avenue reported an incident of attempted fraud. According to the resident, between January 29, 2024 and January 31, 2024, an unknown person(s) made several attempts to access his online bank accounts. This fraudulent activity was flagged by the financial institution and bank accounts were frozen before any financial transactions could be made.
Friday, February 2, a resident of the 400 block of First Street reported being a victim of fraud. On February 1, 2024, the victim contacted an unknown individual through a socialmedia platform and agreed to purchase patio furniture for $400. She was then provided with information to make a Zelle bank transfer in the amount of $200 as a down payment. Once the transfer was made, the victim attempted to contact the seller several times to arrange a pickup; however, she was unsuccessful.
Saturday, February 3, Westfield Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on the 200 block of North Avenue West and found the driver to have an outstanding no-bail criminal warrant out of PerthAmboy Municipal Court. The driver, Freddy Collado, 39, of PerthAmboy, was arrested, processed and subsequently turned over to the Perth Amboy Police Department.
