SUMMIT AREA — The Summit Area Old Guard will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, March 12. Jessica Arkel, development officer for the Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation, will be the guest speaker. She will discuss the history of Children’s Specialized Hospital (CSH) in New Jersey, from its early days in 1891 in Westfield to becoming a preeminent provider of pediatric rehabilitation with 15 facilities across New Jersey.
CSH serves more than 35,000 children annually who are living with a variety of complex pediatric medical conditions — from chronic illnesses and complex physical disabilities like brain and spinal-cord injuries to a full scope of developmental, behavioral and mentalhealth concerns.
Summit Area Old Guard meetings take place at 10 a.m. most Tuesdays at the New Providence Presbyterian Church, located at 1307 Springfield Avenue, New Providence. The organization’s programs are free to the public and all are welcome.
Founded in 1930, the Summit Area Old Guard is a social, recreational and educational fellowship of retired men. Dues are minimal. The group provides speakers and multiple activities through the volunteer efforts of its members. The Old Guard’s motto is “Come for the Programs. Stay for the Friends.”
