SCOTCH PLAINS — The planning board will look into whether property on Lamberts Mill Road is appropriate for redevelopment.
Last month, the township council approved a resolution requesting that the board and its professional staff conduct an examination of the property at 2100 Lamberts Mill Road — which for many years was the site of the Amberg nursery — to determine if it is suitable to redevelop into an apartment complex. The board accepted the request at its brief meeting on Monday night.
The Amberg property has been identified as a potential site that would help the township meet its affordable-housing obligations. The planning board’s professional planner, Harbor Consultants, will oversee the evaluation of the property, which is situated between Spruce Mill Lane and the RWJ Rahway fitness center.
Monday’s 10-minute meeting — held on the first night of Passover and with a very light agenda — was the board’s shortest in many years, and started 10 minutes late while four board members awaited the arrival of a fifth so that a quorum would be present. The board’s agenda continues to be light; the scheduled May 6 meeting is cancelled, and the next one is set for Monday, May 20.
