SCOTCH PLAINS — Coles Elementary School in Scotch Plains held its First Annual Multicultural Night on April 18. The evening featured an Indian tabla drum performance, a performance from the Montclair State University West African Drumming and Dance Ensemble under the direction of Robert Levin, savory to sweet selections of homemade cuisine, and information about the school’s diverse student background.
Tables were set with indigenous décor, fun facts creatively displayed about each country and small snacks. Participating families dressed in clothing that represents their heritage and came together to share their respective cultures.
The festivities were made possible through the efforts of the Multicultural Committee, which worked together to create a meaningful, inclusive and memorable night; participating families who created tables that represented their heritage; Coles Elementary School Principal Sandra Fehte; and the custodial staff.
