BRONX, N.Y. — The State University of New York at Maritime College presented degrees to 401 students during the college’s commencement ceremony on its waterfront campus on May 24.
Among the graduates was Westfield resident Declan O’Connor. Mr. O’Connor earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering, and graduated as a member of the college’s Regiment of Cadets, a leadership and disciplined lifestyle program. He also is a 2023 graduate of the United States Marine Corps Officer Candidates School in Quantico, Va.
Mr. O’Connor graduated from Westfield High School and earned the rank of Eagle Scout as a member of Troop 77, both in 2020. He was a varsity member of the Westfield High School Blue Devils cross-country, winter, and track and field teams. Mr. O’Connor pursued his collegiate running career at Maritime College as a member of the cross-country team.
This summer, he is interning at Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. in Manhattan, as he awaits follow-up training and commissioning as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps.
