AJ Jersey 19, Kenilworth VFW 18 Kenilworth VFW was cruising along and entered the bottom of the 7th inning with a 17-8 lead. Then the impossible happened as theAJ Jersey bats came alive, scoring 10 runs to steal the victory. The big inning was highlighted by Drew Koski‘s walkoff 3-run HR to win the game. Kenilworth was led by David Ball and Bob Greco, each with 3 hits.
Swan Hotel 16, Deegan Roofing 4 The Swannies were able to put up 12 runs in the 1st two innings paired with a strong defensive game (Joe Difabio 2B, Bill D’Amico-Middle) and great pitching by Jim Jimenez in 35mph plus winds. Mark Roll and Ricky McMahon both produced RBI with long home runs to leftfield. Highlights for Deegan were Rob Hawk, Lou Balasteros and Sal Martino, who each had two hits.
NJ Gov’t Services 16, Awnings 15 In a game played under windy conditions, NJGS walked off Awnings Galore 16-15. In the bottom of the 7th, Dante Brando hit a clutch triple and then it was followed by a walkoff single by Tomas Cruz. At the plate for the G-men, Tomas Cruz was 3for-3 and Joe Hrubash, John Lano, Carl Herman, Rich Conklin, Keith McDede (winning pitcher), Dante Brando, Gary Epstein, James Massarlli all had 2 hits each. Frank Verducci made a great catch in leftfield to shut down an Awnings rally. For the Shadesters, Tom Beninato and John Campanella contributed 3 hits apiece while 2 hits each were recorded by Bruce Crawford, Rich Polonitza and Gary Cutler.
Swan Hotel 20, Kenilworth VFW 5
On a sultry night in Linden, Swan Hotel beat Kenilworth VFW (and the incoming thunderstorms) by a score of 20-5. Jimmy Jimenez was the star of the game as he took the mound for the Swannies, held the VFW bats in check and recorded three strikeouts. He was backed up by a solid defense that recorded three double plays. Jimenez helped his effort by providing two hits at the plate. Pat Douglas was three-for-three on the night and Nick Russo, Marty Marks and Tom Baldowski (HR) each contributed three hits each.
Angry Joes 16, NJ Gov’t Services 15 In a game that was not decided until the 7th inning NJGS lost to Angry Joes 16-15. Angry Joe’s was led by Charlie Wischusen, 4-4, Gary Schaller 3-3 and Ed Quinn, Bill Early, Dave Rothenberg,Anthony Miccio, Gerard McDermott, Marty Joyce and Tom Rutkowski all with 2 hits each. At the plate for the G-men, Joe Hrubash had 4 hits while Steve Falco, Joe Attanasi, and Carl Herman had 3 hits each, John Llano, Rich Conklin, and Keith McDede had 2 hits each.
Deegan Roofing 20, Linwood II 9 Deegan’s offense was strong through the game led by Rob Hawk with 4 hits. Don Miller had 3 hits including 2 HRs and Rob Stratton also had 3 hits with a HR. Other Roofers with 3 hits were Pat Nigro and Chris Jones Linwood Boys 24, Awnings Galore 19 Three 6-runs innings propelled The Linwood Boys to a 24-19 victory over Awnings Galore. With the score tied at 10 after 4 innings, The Boy’s bats came alive scoring 14 big runs. The Awnings offense scored 9 to their credit, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit. For the Shadesters, Jerry Isolda and Mike Carnevale led their offense with 3 hits apiece (triples by both). In addition, Richie Polonitza’s had 3 hits. Paul Newton who also joined the Triples Club, had 2 hits. Billy Hillyer, Tom Beninato, Ozzie Osborn and John Campanella all contributed 2 hits each.
