WESTFIELD — Police apprehended a motorist for allegedly driving a stolen vehicle through town on Friday morning.
Police were notified to the purportedly stolen car’s presence by the towns License Plate Reading cameras at approximately 9:31 a.m.
“Our officers were able to execute a stop of that vehicle while it was stopped in traffic at the intersection of East Broad Street and Central Avenue,” Police Chief Christopher Battiloro said. “There is no threat to public safety, and the operator of the vehicle has been detained pending a further investigation.”
The incident caused traffic delays throughout the downtown area as police worked to bring the as-of-yet unidentified suspect into custody.
