Hilda Damiani, 86, Dedicated to Her Family, Parish and Volunteering
Hilda Damiani, 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 1, surrounded by her loving family. Born and raised in Lima, Peru, to the late Roberto and Hilda Valcarcel, she married her beloved husband, William Damiani, on August 31, 1965. They moved together to Bergen County, New Jersey, in 1970, where they would spend the next 30 years until he passed. Hilda had a career in banking until she retired to care for her husband.
After losing her beloved husband, Hilda devoted herself to helping others. She played an active role in caring for her grandchildren while also remaining involved in her parish and community, which included serving as a Eucharistic Minister at the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield as well as volunteering at the Westfield Area YMCA.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, William Damiani, who died in 1999. She is survived by her three children, Aldo Damiani and his wife, Suzanne, Mariella Foley and her husband, Kieran, and Vivian Cassidy and her husband, Shawn, as well as her seven beloved grandchildren, Matthew, Christopher, Caroline, Grace, Colin, Dillon and Madelyn. Visitation was held at Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue, Westfield, on Sunday, August 4, from 3 to 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at the Holy Trinity Church in Westfield on Monday, August 5, at 10 a.m. Entombment followed at St. Joseph Cemetery in Hackensack.
