Raider Girls, Pioneers Tie, 1-1; Tripped Up by Kearny in 2 OT

Getting on the scoreboard turned out to be quite a challenge when the Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School girls soccer team hosted the New Providence Pioneers in Scotch Plains on October 7. The 5-3-3 Raiders scored once at the 10-minute mark but could not strike gold again, while the 6-6-1 Pioneers scored once in the second half, and failed to score again in a 1-1, overtime deadlock The momentum was definitely in the Raiders’ favor from the start against the Pioneers and with 30:16 on the clock, sophomore Sarah Mihansky’s right side corner kick soared right into the box where Ava Bogdan got her head on it to make the score, 1-0. Five minutes later, Mihansky’s left side corner kick caused a scramble and a rejection from the Pioneer defenders.
