A year ago, the Scotch Plains-Fanwood PALfootball teams won three NJSYFL Super Bowl playoff championships in the National Division. In 2023, the 8th grade, 7th grade, and 5th grade Raider teams won National Division Super Bowls titles in Bloomfield.
On Sunday, November 17, the Raiders will attempt to win three Super Bowl championships in the American Division – the larger of the two divisions in the NJSYFL. The American Division Super Bowl games will be played in Old Bridge.
The 7th grade Raiders, under head coach Darion Gonzales, will play in the B level championship game against Old Bridge at 1 p.m. SPF defeatedWest Orange, 26-6, in their first round that was played at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School’s Tyson Field on Sunday, November 10. SPF and Old Bridge have not played this year on the B level.
The 6th grade Raiders, under their head skipper,MikePodell,willmeetBridgewater-RaritanintheCleveltitlegame.TheRaider 6th graders advanced to the Super Bowl when they defeated Chatham, 44-0, on November 10 at Tyson Field. The Super BowlfortheClevelwillbearematchwhen SPF defeated Bridgewater-Raritan, 14-6, on October 20.
ScotchPlains-Fanwood’s5thgraders,led byheadcoachTimGreen,willmeetWestfield in the D level Super Bowl. The Raiders knocked out Hillsborough, 13-6, in the first round atTyson Field on November 10.And the Super Bowl will be the second time this year the D level finalists will meet. The Raiders beat Westfield, 18-6, on October 6.
