The second-seeded Westfield High School girls basketball team made easy work out of the Linden Tigers with a 52-20 thrashing in the first round of the Union County Tournament in Westfield on February 12. The quarterfinal round held at AL Johnson High School in Clark on February 15 had the 19-5 Blue Devils routing the seventh-seeded Scotch Plains-Fanwood Raiders, 49-25.

The Blue Devil girls grabbed a 162, first-quarter lead on the 10-12 Tigers and extended it to 19-8 by halftime. By game’s end, the Blue Devils would sink 11 of 14 free throws. Sophie Lane led the Blue Devils with 17 points, including trip 3-pointers and sinking four of six from the charity line, to go with three rebounds, two assists, three steals and a block. Darby Hubner had a huge evening with 15 points (3-pointer, 4-for-4 free throws), two rebounds and an assist.
Megan Logan had seven points (3pointer), four assists, three rebounds, a block and a steal. Catie Carayannopoulos pulled eight rebounds and added four points (2-for-2 free throws) and three assists. Catherine Oliveira finished with six points, two rebounds and a block. Laura Oliveira had three points (1for-2 free throws), three rebounds and a block. Mairin Fowler had two rebounds, three assists and two steals. Kate Cymbor had two rebounds and two assists. Lilah Hafer grabbed a rebound.
Tiger Janali Thomas finished with seven points (3-pointer, 4-for-5 free throws). Jaaylah Boyd netted four points. Iyanna McDuffie had four points (2-for-4 free throws). Regine Winson scored three points. Genesis Mack and Kendall Wigfall each sank a free throw.
The Blue Devils delivered a harsh message immediately against the Raiders with a 20-8, first-quarter lead then got even nastier in the second quarter with a 15-3 run. Carayannoupoulos recorded another double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds to go with three blocks, an assist and two steals. Lane put up 15 points, including trip 3-pointers and hitting 2-for-2 from the line, and added a rebound. Logan scored nine points (3-pointer, 2-for-2 free throws) and added four rebounds, two assists and a block. Cat Oliveira had six points, five assists, four steals, five rebounds and a block. Huberhad five points (3pointer), an assist and a rebound. Fowler sank a 3-pointer and added four assists and a rebound. Laura Oliveira had three rebounds and a steal.
Marin Pecarsky led the Raiders with 12 points and Grace Cawley netted six points (2-for-2 free throws). Amelia Fallon scored four points, Kendall Kelly sank a pair of free throws and Maggie McNulty sank a free throw.
On February 12, the Raiders ousted the Summit Hilltoppers, 55-38, in the first round and the outcome was nearly decided with an 18-3 first-quarter run. Pecarsky pumped in 23 points (trip 3pointers, 4-for-5 free throws), two rebounds and two assists. McNulty sank 13 points (2 3-pointers, 3-for-3 free throws). Cawley had 11 rebounds, three points and four steals. Kelly scored five points and Maddie Huber had two points, while Abigail Dursee and Gianna Lukko each sank a free throw.
Emily Sensenich led Summit with 16 points, five steals and four assists. Charlotte Yarnall had nine points and 11 rebounds.
