Margaret Ann (Peggy) Cojanis, age 84, died on Friday, February 14, 2025, in her Westfield, New Jersey home.
She was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, on April 22, 1940, to her late parents, Michael Cojanis and Edith (née Gottlick) Cojanis. She lived her entire life in Westfield and loved it there. She especially loved to walk each day and was a regular patron at Trader Joe’s. She was a communicant and regular attendee at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She graduated in 1958 from Holy Trinity High School, where she participated in the glee club, basketball and cheerleading. She studied nursing at St. Peter’s School of Nursing in New Brunswick, New Jersey. After graduating in 1960, she worked for over 30 years as a pediatric nurse at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey. She loved old movies, especially James Bond, and music, especially Frank Sinatra. Her favorite color was purple. Her many interests included genealogy, walking and traveling when she was younger.
She reigned as queen of speed solitaire in the family for many years and loved to sing “Diamonds Are Forever” to distract everyone. She loved the Jersey shore, especially Cape May. She was an avid reader — everything from current events, Wall Street and novels. She had a passion for sweets and loved to bake. She was the fifth of seven children and is predeceased by two sisters, Mary Lou Cojanis and Helen Cojanis, as well as a brother, James Cojanis. She is survived by a sister, Elizabeth (née Cojanis) Behne, and two brothers, Peter Cojanis and John Cojanis. She was loved and will be remembered by many cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as greatnieces and nephews.
Services are in the care of Dooley Colonial Home in Westfield. Cremation was private. A Funeral Mass will take place at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 506 Westfield Avenue, Westfield, on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Saint Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.
