WESTFIELD — On Sunday, at 6:13 p.m., the Westfield Fire Department responded to the report of a vehicle into a tree with multiple wires down with an active fire. The first Westfield Fire Department units arrived on scene at 6:18 p.m., to find a large tree across the eastbound lanes of Route 22 with a vehicle colliding into the downed tree, along with several electrical lines on fire. Fire quickly spread to the vegetation along the side of Route 22, traveling east and west of the incident. Fire units were deployed strategically on all sides of the fire to contain the fire spread to any structures and additional fire extension. Crews contained the fire until PSE&G could de-energize the live wires for extinguishment.
