The Westfield Leader and Union County HAWK strive for its websites to be a complete and accurate historical record of Westfield, Scotch Plains, Fanwood, Cranford, Garwood, Mountainside, Clark and the surrounding communities. To un-publish or limit the accessibility of our archives through search engines compromises the integrity of this record and violates the trust The Leader and HAWK readers have placed in us since 1890.
It is our policy to not remove published content from our website or make it unsearchable. Caching technology used by search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo and other sites archive our newspapers as soon as they’re published. Removing an article from the printed newspaper’s archive won’t remove all traces of that article’s existence. Content published in print and online are part of the public record and are exempt from legal expungement, just the same as printed newspapers preserved in attics, on microfiche, in libraries, historical societies or in digital archives.
